According to a self-proclaimed “shocking new study,” men care more about impressing their significant others more than their mothers this holiday season. Oh, and they want booze wrapped under the tree.
Maxim magazine and Hornitos Tequila—two of the leading sources for male psychological surveys—conducted a survey of over 3,000 so-called “typical, male instigators.” (We’ll assume that includes dudes who drink Hornitos and look at the pictures in Maxim.)
What was on their minds? Tequila and women.
The Maxim-Hornitos team revealed that “a whopping 46 percent of men are planning on spending upward of $350 on the women in their lives this holiday season.” However, a good majority of that money will go to their spouses or girlfriends:
46 percent of guys claim they’ll spend $250 on gifts for their significant other and only $100 on gifts for their mom. Maybe it’s time for a reminder of how she took care of you when you were sick in the 4th grade!
Although they’re clearly blind to the parental health care provided to them during their elementary-school days, instigators know what they want for the holidays:
While holiday instigators are planning on spending big bucks on gifts (and expect the same in return), booze far outweighs their interest in electronics and gadgets, with a substantial 63 percent of men picking a bottle of premium tequila as their most wanted gift this season over an iPad (21 percent) or Xbox (9 percent). And don’t you dare get him clothing, as only a mere 7 percent want to receive duds this holiday season!

You heard the press-release writer. Don’t you dare get us clothes. It’s either Mexican liquor or—if they’re sold out—an iPad. Worst case scenario: get us an Xbox, and we might forgive you.
Amy Weisenbach, a director at Beam Global Spirits and Wine, sums it up: men are simple, giving creatures with top-shelf tastes.
These findings prove that the holiday instigator is willing to spend several hundred dollars on the women in his life, yet all he wants in return is simple—a bottle of premium tequila.
