Alex Yarde is psyched about the prospect of more AMC geeky goodness courtesy of DailyDead.Com
My pals at DailyDead.Com shared a scoop about the pilots for two intriguing new AMC (The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men) series. The first is along the lines of NBC’s excellent Dracula (fingers crossed it gets a second season). “Knifeman” is about the Brothers Tattersal: John, a hard drinking, hard living ethically challenged “Barber” that moonlights as a surgeon in an illegal operating theatre in 18th century London; and the “good” son Julian, a prized physician of the St. Stephen’s Teaching Hospital. The series is based on the biography of John Hunter by Wendy Moore, “The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching and the Birth of Modern Surgery.” It looks to fill my need for 18th century gothic horror.
The other pilot is Galyntine an original (zombie free) post apocalyptic character driven series that chronicles the trials of isolated bands of human survivors that reject technology in their struggles to survive.
I’m intrigued and encouraged by the quality of TV shows nowadays based upon decidedly “geek” subject matter and source material. Hopefully this renaissance of intelligent, quality sci-if, horror and fantasy continue on the small screen!
