Alex Yarde gives novices the THE FULL CHICIMANGA on DEADPOOL!
Okay children gather round and I’ll tell you the story of Marvel’s best B lister they sold the movie rights to that they are currently kicking themselves over! Ryan Reynolds viral campaign paid off and his labor of love, Deadpool premiered on “Conan” Tuesday and broke the Internet!
The film’s awesomely bloody and adult themed R-rated trailer caused Tuesday night’s episode of Conan on TBS to be rated TV-MA!
“Showing @VancityReynolds’ #Deadpool trailer earned my show a TV-MA rating tonight. Thanks a f—ing lot, Ryan,” Conan O’Brien tweeted.
The NSFW red band trailer — starts with Wade Wilson making the difficult choice with his girlfriend on a risky painful and ultimately disfiguring procedure to save his life from terminal cancer. On the upside it gives him superpowers!
“Just make sure you do right by me, so I can do right by somebody else,” he says before undergoing the life-alerting experiment. “And just don’t make my suit green — or animated!” (a dig at the mega flop DC’s Green Lantern)
Don’t like ads? Become a supporter and enjoy The Good Men Project ad freeWilson dons red spandex and the moniker Deadpool. T.J. Miller’s character, Weasel, Deadpool’s best friend has the perfect description.
“You look like Freddy Kruger face-f—ed a topographical map of Utah,” he says. “You are haunting. You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado.”
What’s a mentally unstable, immortal, superhuman killing machine left to do? Go on a mission for revenge against those who experimented on him naturally! But unlike every other revenge fueled action hero he’s having a ball doing it!
The “Merc with a Mouth” greatest power is his tendency to break the fourth wall, hitting his targets with a constant barrage of one-liners, bullets and sword slashes to both ultra violent and sidesplitting effect!
“I wear red so my enemies dont see me bleed. That guys got the right idea! He wore the brown pants!
That’s all well and good, but who the ____ is DEADPOOL anyway?
Good question! Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefield originally created Deadpool as a villain in the early ‘90s. Wade Wilson was a mutant and already a highly trained Special Forces Operative, master assassin, marksman and swordsman. Wilson was endowed by the Weapon X program through painful experimentation and surgeries with a healing factor. This enables him to regenerate any destroyed tissue at a superhuman rate, as well as making him immune to diseases. Like Weapon X teammate Wolverine he can’t get drunk, doesn’t age and is for all intents and purposes immortal. Deadpool’s brain cells are similarly affected, with dying neurons being rejuvenated at a super accelerated rate which makes him a wee bit insane, but fun at parties!
This allows Deadpool to recover from any head wounds, and it renders him nearly invulnerable to psychic and telepathic powers, as the altered or damaged neurons quickly regenerate to their original state. At the time that his healing ability was given to him, Deadpool’s cancer wasn’t cured it made his normal cells as well as his cancerous cells unable to die, giving him heavily scarred (making him “better” was fool’s gold). Deadpool’s healing factor is strong enough that he’s survived complete incineration and decapitation more than once. He’s survived being pulverized by The Hulk.
Okay, that’s pretty cool, so why is everyone so crazy about DEADPOOL?
Deadpool Fans have been anxiously awaiting the trailer’s debut since it received a standing ovation at Comic-Con this July. The swarms of Deadpool Cosplayers I witness every Comic Con who channel his unique edgy slapstick and gallows humor attest to his longevity (pun intended) In 1997, Deadpool was given his own ongoing title, written by Joe Kelly, & Ed McGuiness as an artist. Deadpool was an action comedy parody send-up of the late 90s antihero-heavy comics. This series firmly established his supporting cast T.J. Miller’s awesome Weasel and his prisoner/den mother Blind Al. The brief exchange gives you a great window on their dynamic:
Deadpool: Smells like old ladies underpants in here. Blind Al: You sound like you’ve got a d__k in your mouth.
That comic series is what I believe the filmmakers are channeling and Deadpool’s cult popularity has grown to this day for its unorthodox main character and its balance of angst and pop culture slapstick. The character became less of a villain, though his moral ambiguity remained. The writer Joe Kelly noted,
“With Deadpool, we could do anything we wanted because everybody just expected the book to be cancelled every five seconds, so nobody was paying attention. And we could get away with it.”

“For one, I think it’s an absolute miracle that a studio let us make ‘Deadpool,’ let alone a rated-R ‘Deadpool,’” Reynolds told the Comic-Con audience of 20th Century Fox’s willingness to green light the film.
The actor appeared as a version of the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine WITH HIS MOUTH SEWN SHUT? Yeah, I didn’t get that either why take away the best thing about the character and sword hands? Beat me with a stick.
Oh and the Colossus cameo is badass. Considering he’s been a member of Weapon X program, XMen & SHIELD I hope we see a few more guest stars!
Here’s the official write up on the film:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
DEADPOOL, Directed by Tim Miller, also stars Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein and Brianna Hildebrand.
The film hits theaters on Feb. 12, 2016. Just in time for Valentines Day! Take someone you love! Who am I kidding go by yourself and make a friend! I’m gonna watch this trailer again!!
