After previewing the pilot Alex Yarde says, “If you aren’t in tears by the end of this show, we can’t be friends.”
If the makers of Scooby Doo (the original ones before Velma’s makeover) and the beloved Mr.T Animated Show dropped Acid you’d have what I’m going out on a limb and calling the next hit on Adult Swim, Mike Tyson Mysteries. This is the premise of the Warner Animation produced show- “Aided by the Mike Tyson Mystery Team- The Ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry (he wrote the “Marquess of Queensberry Rules” that modern boxing are based upon), Jim Rash (Community) , Mike’s adopted Korean daughter Yung Hee, Rachel Ramras (Mad) , and a foul-mouthed pigeon who was once a man- Norm Macdonald (SNL) Mike Tyson will answer any plea sent to him.” Needless to say madness ensues. Tyson who lends his voice to the proceedings, has brilliant comic timing and is secure enough that he plays up his public persona with a wink and a nod, as fans of The Hangover movies can attest. The episodes are a scant 15 minutes but are so rich and jam packed with rapid fire zingers, (I could barely catch my breath) you need a second viewing. It’s as bizzare and salty as you could expect. Make sure the kids are in bed before you fire up the DVR!
Don’t miss the series premiere Monday, October 27th at 10:30 P.M. ET/PT only on Adult Swim
