Alex Yarde was blown away by Comic Con 2015 panels, trailers, announcements & news!
It was truly an earth shattering San Diego Comic Con 2015! Unfortunately, I was not present this year (*sob) but I kept a close eye on the live feeds, news and events and I compiled a top five list for you so you don’t have too! Here are my Top 5 #SDCC All Things Geek Moments in no particular order:
1) Star Wars The Force Awakens Comic Con Panel & sizzle reel
This panel was easily the heart of the Con. The full cast, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan & Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy pulled out all the stops! From the two squads of new stormtroopers that maintained order, to the surprise post plane crash arrival of Harrison Ford, bounding on stage and very emotional address to adoring fans. After which every single attendee in Hall H attended a free concert with complementary Lightsabers! The sizzle reel below, quite frankly sizzled! Not alot of new footage but it features behind the scenes looks at new locations. The actors and film makers were, to a person, also in awe of being involved in The Force Awakens and huge Star Wars geeks themselves! It truly has to be seen to be believed! In my view, you are a Star Wars fan, or you’re wrong.

2) Official Comic Con Trailer: Fear the Walking Dead: World Premiere
The Walking Dead panel is always a show stopper but this trailer for the new spin off series Fear the Walking Dead was the highlight! This series answers the burning question The Walking Dead fans have asked for years. As Rick Grimes lay in a coma, what did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying zombie apocalypse we’ve come to know and love? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world answers that question. In spades. I can’t wait!

3) Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 3: Magical Friendship – Official Trailer
The Robot Chicken DC Comics Special 3: Magical Friendship surrenders DC Comics’ multitude of Super Heroes and Super-Villains to the demented whims of the award-winning Robot Chicken for a triumphant third time. This time around, Batman and Superman’s bromance takes a competitive turn and the fate of the universe somehow hangs in the balance! The all-star cast includes Seth Green, Matt Senreich, Breckin Meyer, Alfred Molina, Nathan Fillion, Weird Al Yankovic, Alex Borstein, Giovanni Ribisi, Jonathan Banks, Mae Whitman, Hugh Davidson, Dee Bradley Baker, Zeb Wells, Kevin Shinick, plus Adam West and Burt Ward.

4) Hugh Jackman is OLD MAN LOGAN in WOLVERINE 3!!!
During the FOX panel Hugh Jackman waxed nostalgic about his long journey playing Wolverine, then announced the next time he did it would be a solo outing, and the story would be familiar to comic book fans. Then said something totally unexpected, “Iv’e got three words for you guys: Old. Man. Logan. ” To riotous applause! He went on, ” As promised, this next time is my last time putting on the claws, it’s one last time.” It’s no secret if you follow this sort of thing that Fox legally purchased film rights for The X-Men and mutants from the then cash-strapped Marvel. Marvel prohibited merchandising for Fox cinematic characters and has recently killed off or downplayed the X-Men and mutants as a whole in the comics in favor of The Inhumans, a property they still hold the rights to. Even everyones favorite mutant got the axe with The Death of Wolverine event. Ironically, Wolverine is as strong as his healing factor, the one mutant who Marvel loves as he out performs the rest in whatever book they put him in (he ends up in ALOT of other books). Mark Millar, the chief consultant at FOX for Marvel properties also wrote the best modern Wolverine story, Old Man Logan. Old Man Logan is so popular now he survived the Secret Wars and will star in his own book in Marvel Comics main continuity! You can see Marvel’s self imposed dilemma if FOX swipes the Old Man Logan story for Wolverine 3! Behind Jackman as he broke the news was a graphic of him as Wolverine popping a single middle claw, I strongly suspect it’s at Marvel!
5) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Official SDCC Trailer
If the Star Wars The Force Awakens panel & sizzle reel was the heart of SDCC15, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Official SDCC Trailer was the soul. This was the promise delivered by Snyder & company! So many crisp images. Superman humbly standing trial for the destruction of Metropolis. Affleck’s Bruce Wanye racing towards a crumbling Wayne Tower. Him training in the Batcave in the shadow of Robins charred, defaced empty costume with “The Jokes on you Batman” scrawled across it. My son observed on our tenth viewing of the trailer “Clearly Superman starts the fight you never touch another persons things (Superman makes the Batmobile a convertible). I’m not ashamed to say when I saw the snippet of Gal Godot’s Wonder Woman in action, smirking at an unseen foe mid battle I chuckled gleefully! COOLEST thing I’ve seen in a while and I watch a ton of cool stuff for a living. You’ve seen it dozens of times already, watch it again with someone you love. Eisenberg’s mocking Lex Luthor “The red capes are coming! The red capes are coming!” Ahh Lex, can’t wait until you go bald!

Fantastic! I wish you had done the top ten, because I think Deadpool would have made that list and, more importantly, the dubsmash war between Clark Gregg, Chloe Bennett, Haley Atwell, and James D’Arcy…because it was epic, and it culminated with Clark Gregg dressed as Haley Atwell’s Agent Carter in a blue dress with a red hat and lipstick, singing “We Are The Champions” with the Agents of Shield cast. Thanks for keeping us updated on All Things Geek!
