Drama is great for relationships (when you’re watching it on TV). Joanna Schroeder on why you need Hulu.

Call me old-fashioned (or maybe just old!), but there’s nothing I find more romantic than a night in with my husband. Date nights are fun, but the mere idea of putting on fancy clothes and a pair of high heels after a full day of work and taking care of our very active little boys makes me exhausted.
I know my husband feels the same way. He runs around all day long at work, managing dozens of people. The last thing he wants to do during his down time is head to a crowded bar or restaurant.
Yes, we are homebodies, and so are most of our friends. We no longer crave the nightlife, but we do still crave the drama, which is why we’re totally hooked on FOX’s hit drama, Empire.
It’s also why we’re totally hooked on Hulu. And believe it or not, Hulu can be a total marriage-saver. Don’t believe me? Here are four reasons why, featuring four great shows, available on Hulu:
–
1. There’s no place we’d rather be.
Home, together, in comfortable clothes, and watching Nashville is pretty much a dream night for us. This is our time, this is our place, and we get to watch what we want, when we want by turning on Hulu and catching up on our favorite shows.
It may not be much of a nightlife to some, but there is truly no place we’d rather be than snuggled up, laughing together and enjoying everything we love about tv together.
–
2. Drama-free drama.
Drama is not great for relationships, unless you’re watching it on TV.
We may not have a lot of drama in our lives these days, but we have drama exactly where we want it: on the screen in front of us. Cookie, Lucious, and the rest of Lyon family have enough of their own to go around on Empire.
When we finish work, where we manage people and solve problems all day long, the last thing we want is to have to solve problems in our down time. That’s why we’re hooked on Hulu. No problems to solve, just the glamor and romance in the lives of these beautiful fictional characters. And they’re there the moment we want them, just a click away.

3. Our schedule, our time, no need to fight.
Before Hulu, there was always the worry that my husband wouldn’t get home from work on time to watch our favorite shows, or that one of our kids might have trouble going to sleep before the show started.
A lot of conflict in relationships comes out of broken plans and missed schedules, even when these things are out of our control.
When it comes to catching up on Modern Family, no one wants to miss out. Hulu makes it simple to start when we are ready, and to take a break if one of our kids needs us or if we want to watch the rest later.
Sometimes knowing there are perfectly imperfect families like your own really puts your mind at ease. Cameron and Mitchell really are a modern family and definitely have their fair share of tiffs, but at the root of their relationship seems to be real love. And that’s nice to see in a TV show these days.

4. New shows to discover, new adventures to be had.
–
Change can be scary, but this year the Fall TV premiere lineup is so exciting, you can definitely find a new show to watch, like Hulu’s Difficult People.
That’s what’s great! With Hulu we can simply click around and try all the new shows we want, or discover new shows we would’ve missed out on before.
After all, not even the Lyon family can keep everyone entertained all the time. Exploring on Hulu was how we discovered Difficult People, which is different from any of our other favorites, but a totally fun escape.
And having high-quality new shows to watch gives us something fun to talk about with one another, as well as other TV-loving friends who also love to have TV marathons.

There’s something truly glorious for us about a date night (or date day!) camped out together eating our favorite foods and marathon-watching Hulu. It’s our time, it’s our place, and we get to watch exactly how we want to.
Hulu and chill? A marriage without chill is a marriage without life.
