Far Cry 4 is far and away different than every video game you’ve played before, including the previous Ubisoft games.

I am going to apologize right now, this game took me a long time review. But that’s because I loved it so much I wanted to do everything in the game, that includes discovering, doing, and unlocking EVERYTHING, and I can honestly tell you that it can get pretty freaking weird. But, I promise no spoilers outside of gameplay. The things that make this game great are the upgrading system, free-roamable world, and great cast of actors.

I should start out by telling that the world Ubisoft has built is no picnic. Although it is beautiful it is also extremely dangerous, which led me to fear leaving the roads if I did not have a vehicle to drive to my next destination. You know it’s dangerous out there when even the eagles see you as a potential food source. The wildlife ranges anywhere from elephants to wild dogs and the only things that don’t attack you on sight are turtles, goats, deer, and the elephants. Anything else can and will kick the snot out of you. There are even Honey Badgers in the country of Kyrat that will willingly take an assault rifle to the head and keep coming.

Next, there is the upgrading system, which I thought was really interesting because it was so different. The skill tree part of the character progression was two-sided one side, the Tiger, was focused on combat and stealth skills. The other side, the elephant, was focused on survival. Also, a thing that surprised me about the skills that you had to choose from seemed to be actually useful at one time or another which doesn’t happen with a lot of games. The other part of the character progression was the craft-able gear, mainly in the form of pouches. This particular set of upgrades proved to be invaluable as the bigger problems required me to use bigger solutions, usually in the form of bullets and explosives.

Now, for the great acting crew headed by the man behind the villain, Troy Baker, who is an exceptional actor I absolutely loved the work he did bringing Pagan Min to life. In my opinion, the other actors did just as well. Whenever a cut-scene came around you could always feel the tension, anger, happiness or regret in the faces and voices. It really helped to get you into the spirit of the game, and it is my opinion that the more emersed you feel the better the game is.

This really struck me struck me as an amazing game, so I give it a 4.8 out of 5 because there were some extremely inappropriate spots, and those tigers jumping out of the bushes to maul me still made it through from Far Cry 3. Dang those things are nasty.
