This movie proves how strong men can be when they want something bad enough
When life gets hard or things get tough it is easy to give up. People do it all the time these days. But there are those rare moments when you can take a risk and push harder than you ever have before to achieve something few people can ever dream of having happen to them. Burnt shows that no matter how hard you may have fallen from grace and how bad of mistakes you may have made when you were younger there is still time to make something amazing happen.
Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) left school at 16 to move become a chef. He was very good and worked long hours and built a really good reputation. Yet as the years went by he got deep into partying, drugs and drinking and lost everything. After that he wasn’t sure he could ever find his way back on top, but decides to give it another shot. He flies to London and reconnects with his old friends Michel (Omar Sy) and Tony (Daniel Bruhl) who thought he was dead but are glad to help him out. He also meets Helene (Sienna Miller) who is a young chef who he takes under his wing because she has the potential to do great things. . He starts a new restaurant in Paris and wants nothing more than to gain three Michelin stars. This will not be an easy thing to obtain, in fact a part of him knows this may never happen. Will Adam finally be able to get this prestigious honor? Has he finally become a chef that can prove he deserves three stars? And will any kind of struggles from the past come back to haunt him?
This movie has a good cast that are mostly unknowns or smaller actors but they work really well together. No matter how big or small a part may seem there is a reason they are there and sometimes these characters will surprise you. The costumes and sets are well constructed and do a very good job of bringing all the elements of a modern kitchen to life, the good and bad elements. The best thing about this movie is its clear message. Adam has definitely had his share of rough times and has made many mistakes, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a chance at greatness. The best moments are when he comes to grips with the past and finds out that the answers to his problems are right in front of him. The ending was wonderful and most viewers won’t see it coming.
The movie gets 7/10. There are some moments where the editing moves to quickly and this writer found that confusing sometimes. There are also moments when the film decides to slow down and this didn’t always make sense to me. The plot is clever but is not the best cooking movie you will ever see. But most people will enjoy this movie and there will be a few twists that will keep it interesting for them.
If you are a fan of Bradley Cooper, this is a movie you should watch. If you are a fan of good food this is a movie you will really enjoy. It is not a film for kids because of some harsh language and a few adult situations. Burnt gets released this Friday.
