Captain America Civil War continues the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a battle that could change the Avengers forever
I love the Marvel movies. I have watched these films pretty much from the beginning and it is no secret that the comics had a rough couple of years making the transition to the big screen. There were a few good movies like Spider-Man and many duds sadly. Yet this all changed when Iron Man came out in 2008. Since that moment Marvel has done little to no wrong when it comes to their TV shows and movies. To see how much of a fan I am you can check out my reviews of Marvel Agents of Shield, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Ant-Man. The newest addition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been getting a lot of hype and has done pretty well overseas, yet does that mean it is good?I was lucky enough to see Captain America Civil War earlier this week and here is what I though of it.
Here is the plot for Captain America Civil War:
“Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.”
Captain America Civil War is wonderful. It does a great job of introducing Black Panther in a way that is fluid and never feels forced or rushed. Chadwick Boseman is the perfect man to play this character. He does a splendid job of bringing all the different dimensions and is one of the coolest additions for the Avengers yet. I also really liked how Tom Holland breathed new life into Spider-Man. His portrayal is comical, silly at times and yet he adds new elements that make this portrayal unique. Throw all the other heroes into the mix and it makes for one amazing movie that brings some startling revelations for these characters. What I liked best though was that the film stayed in the moment, it didn’t plan ahead or try to set up other films until is is all over. It is a mistake Marvel has made before and it was nice to see they have learned their lesson.
Captain America Civil War has earned 9/10. It was by no means the best Marvel movie I have seen recently, but it does a really good job telling a difficult story in a way fans and non-fans will be able to follow and understand. It is filled with great action sequences, some hilarious comedic moments and plenty of drama that really helps move the plot along. Overall it is most likely going to be another hit for Marvel and has plenty for fans of all ages to enjoy.
If you liked the previous Captain America and Iron Man movies you won’t want to miss this one. For viewers in the mood for some great action this is the picture they will want to pick. People who enjoyed the comics will be pleased with how they brought this one to life on the big screen. Captain America Civil War comes out this Friday. To pick your side click here.
