Brandy Pettigrew explores why she became a Foodie and how ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ feeds her passion.

A few years ago I wouldn’t have considered myself a “Foodie,” but times have changed and so have I. It all started with trying to get my sons to eat. They were, both, picky eaters and at times would go to extremes like: only eating white foods (our particular favorite quirk) or high protein/low carb eating because of sports. So, out of all of these crazy food issues, I became conscience of the meals I prepared, always checking with all three of my guys to see if the spices were right, the cut of the meat to their liking, and watching to see whether one side dish paired better with the meal than another. From all of this food-centered living we began choosing better restaurants when we dined out, we started to go to wine tastings, and I began watching copious amounts of cooking shows. That’s where I discovered “Hell’s Kitchen.”
I don’t know if it’s my love for cooking or my business degree that calls to this show more. Chef Gordon Ramsey knows how to bring his kitchen to a boil. He weeds out the bad apples from the good in “Hell’s Kitchen” every Wednesday at 8 pm EST. The new season started last week with it’s usual explosive blend of culinary ability and Ramsey’s take nothing but the best attitude. The ladies won the week’s team challenge and were rewarded with an amazing meal with Wolfgang Puck, while the men’s team lost the challenge and had to prepare the dorms for all of the contestants. But don’t count the men’s team out just yet, there is a tremendous group of talented chefs here and they will stop at nothing to reach their goal.
The Grand Prize for this year’s winner is a $250,000 per year job as the Head Chef of Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in Atlantic City. 18 aspiring chefs will brave their way through each week’s challenge and the grueling “Hell’s Kitchen” team competitions to make their way toward their dream job and the coveted black jacket.
Gordon Ramsey and “Hell’s Kitchen” inspires me each week to keep working towards the perfect meal for my family. They also have taught me to expect so much more from a restaurant than just your average burger and fries. I find myself looking at each restaurant and cook that I encounter, in a whole new way. Don’t know what I mean? Check out “Hell’s Kitchen” and bring out the Foodie in yourself….
Yes, he does. He doesn’t discriminate. He’s just as tough on the men as on the women. He puts his craft and his business first. I admire and respect that. He may not use the same techniques or approaches to get results that I personally would use… But being a chef you have to deal with a very high pressure environment. You are going to be dealt harsh criticism by critics, patrons, and other staff. You need to be prepared to deal with that. I’m quite sure that is why he talks to them the way he does. He needs… Read more »
Even with his mocking women like saying things like “you dumb blond?” He inspires you?
