A new kid is born into the family and brings along a new set of worries for Dracula an his friends
Hotel Transylvania in 2012 changed the way people see the world of monsters. Dracula had built a hotel unseen by human eyes and it was the place for all kinds of creatures to go to relax and enjoy themselves. Since then a few things have changed but these are all for the better. A new bundle of joy comes to the family and changes a lot of things. The sequel does a great job of continuing this story and here is what this writer thought of it.
The hotel is now available to human guests since Johnny accidentally stumbled into it a few years ago. The place is therefore quite busy and when Mavis (Selena Gomez) and Johnny (Andy Samberg) have a son named Dennis (Asher Blinkoff) life appears to be better than it ever was before. But there is a problem that causes Dracula (Adam Sandler) all kinds of anguish. Dennis does not possess any vampire abilities yet and it has been said that if a child does not obtain these traits by the age of five they will never happen. If Dennis is a human Mavis will have no reason to stay at the hotel anymore and will leave him all alone. So Dracula makes it his mission to do everything he can think of to help Dennis release his inner vampire before it is too late. How will Dracula try to accomplish this goal? In what ways will he try to keep it a secret from his daughter Mavis? And what will happen if Dennis never becomes the vampire Dracula knows he can be?
There a many good things about this film. It is great to see the whole cast together again in a new adventure. It was a real treat to get to return to the hotel that truly is one of a kind. The special effects are as amazing as ever and do a wonderful job of bringing every character to life. The plot is original and has its share of surprises and comedic moments. There are also a couple of emotional scenes that will have kids and adults wondering what is going to happen next. Kids will really like Dennis and enjoy every moment he is one screen.
But there are a few problems with this sequel. Dennis is a big part of this film so much that the rest of the cast go from being main events to supporting parts in what is going on in his world. This takes away a lot of the things that made the first movie so wonderful. It was the whole cast and every characteristic they have that helped make it one of the best films this writer had seen in years. The addition of a Blobby character was a bit out of place and sadly was only used most of the time to add comedy to some scenes and never really had much of a chance to develop into anything substantial. What was also a shame was the Vlad (Mel Brooks) was underused in this movie. He is a comedic genius and always finds a way to turn a bland scene into one that will make you laugh until it hurts. The scenes he is in are some of the best and personally this writer wishes he had shown up sooner. But other than these things this sequel is the perfect film to see with the whole family and one kids will be dying to see.
The films has earned 8/10. With its minor flaws and a plot that is good but not astounding some fans may be disappointed by what they get this time around. But it is a movie kids will truly have a blast watching and one that comes with some great messages that everyone needs to hear. The most powerful one is that no matter what a person is or is not they deserve the love of their whole family. The final scenes are some of the best in the whole movie and some unforeseen surprises wrap this film up nicely in a tight bow.
If you liked the first film this is one you will want to see. If you like animated movies this is one you must not miss. If you are trying to find a great films to see with your kids this is the movie to watch. There is something that all ages will like and overall was a well written sequel. Take your kids to see this movie they will have a blast from start to finish.
