Satirical late night bit reveals a tremendous problem.
Jimmy Kimmel Live posted one of their “Six of One” man on the street bits to Youtube this week, and the clip immediately went viral. In this segment, the interviewer asks passersby which they prefer: Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act.
Were the interviewees confused by the question or uninformed? You be the judge:

Nick, thank you for your response. Jennifer’s comments were off point. Being “loud & wrong,” as the elders in my community would say, is not a good thing. The vehement and passionately hateful opposition to The Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, is often propagated on assumptions based out of rhetoric and bias. I would say, if someone reading this is in the same crowd as the sad lady above: (1) honestly ask yourself what or who you really hate or fear? the problem isn’t that these people aren’t all that well informed, it’s that they have such strong opinions one way or the other, whilst being uninformed
Confused by the question or uninformed? I’m not sure it matters. In any group there will be a subset that is less informed and with appropriate editing and particularly shaped questions, I’m pretty sure anyone could make a video like the above about any issue. That said, I’d like to assume positive intent and that the producers are using humor as an opportunity to educate (granted, at the expense of a select few). My bet is that the first search people make online after seeing this clip is “Obamacare” or “Affordable Care Act” in order to get up to snuff… Read more »
