A movie that has an ridiculous plot and is missing the things that made the original wonderful
When the British Prime Minister dies under mysterious circumstances, his funeral becomes a must attend event for most of the leaders of the Western world. Precautions are taken on all sides to make sure this doesn’t become a national disaster but somehow things go south anyways. A ton of bombs go off and a few of the world leaders get killed. These radicals want the U.S. president Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) dead and the only person to make sure this doesn’t happen is his US secret service lead agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler). With the aid of the Vice President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) to try and find out who is responsible for this attack and to also do his part to make sure the president is alive and that he gets any help he needs to make it home safe. Mike also goes to an old MI6 agent (Charlotte Riley) to help these men with this difficult mission. It won’t be easy because these people have done their homework, it is not always easy to tell who they are or where they will strike next, and those in charge will stop at nothing to reach their goals. Why did these evil people orchestrate such an attack? What do they hope to achieve? And just how is Mike going to get his commander in chief out of such a dangerous place?
London has Fallen was an okay movie but it wasn’t great either. Sadly Gerard Butler is not that good, his role is pretty one dimensional, is most of the time either angry or in fight mode and plays a role that has been seen in action films for decades. It is the one man going against a small army and in the end he somehow survives barely harmed and is better for it once it is all over. This writer has seen too many movies like this and frankly some of them were much better. The villain is good and is the conductor of this awful attack that truly does shake London to its very core. People get scared by what he does and even more frightened of what he plans to do next. Overall not a terrible movie but one that doesn’t really do much to stand out from the pack either.
London has Fallen gets 5/10. This was not the worst movie this writer has seen and had a few scenes that he really enjoyed but sadly they were few and far between. Most of the time what is happening is too unrealistic and could never occur in any real life situation. Some people will like this movie and those who enjoyed the first one will have fun watching this sequel. Yet for those viewers who are not a fan of tons of violence and swearing will do best to steer clear of this movie.
If you liked Olympus has Fallen then this is a movie you will want to see. If you are in the mood for a good action movie then this is the film to pick. Yet for those in the mood for something original that will amaze them, this will not be the picture for you. London has Fallen comes out this Friday.
