This new show coming to Fox shows the devil is a whole new way
Fox has always been at the forefront of clever new TV show ideas. They have brought audiences The Simpsons, Futurama, American Dad and many other clever live action programs that people of all ages love to watch each week. Next year they hope to keep this momentum going with a brand new show that has a smart premise and could do very well. This writer has seen the pilot and this is what he thought about it.
The show will take a look at Lucifer (Tom Ellis) who has become tired of being in charge of Hell, so he leaves his throne and moves to Los Angeles where he runs a popular night club named Lux. He lives a sweet life where he can do whatever he wants without any responsibility and for the first time in millennia he appears to be happy.
But when someone he cared for is killed right in front of him things change quick. All that is on his mind is who killed them and how can he make sure they suffer for what they did. He asks for the help of Chloe Dancer (Lauren German) a homicide detective to aid him in solving this terrible crime. But with so many suspects this won’t be an easy case to crack. Why did someone kill this person? What would be their motive? Will Lucifer and Chloe be able to find out who did it? And why does Lucifer care about this person so much?
The pilot is pretty good. Most of the cast is okay but Tom Ellis and Lesley-Ann Brandt do work great together. They find a way to play off of each other and make Lucifer a character people may end up liking for many reasons. They have an odd relationship but somehow bring out the best in each other. But the best thing about this pilot was the soundtrack. It was wonderful to hear this awesome theme song, it is a perfect match for the direction this show wants to go. There has been some controversy from different groups who are afraid this show will make the devil look like a good person but don’t let in influence you from watching this show.
If you are a fan of clever comedies this is a show you should watch. If you are looking for a good drama to watch this is a show you may really enjoy. The pilot was screened in July at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con. It was met with mostly positive reviews and Lucifer is scheduled to premiere on Fox in 2016.
