The film is severely lacking in plot and the characters are pretty bland
Recently there have been a couple of remakes that have come out and sadly most of them have been either okay or pretty bad. The Poltergeist remake had amazing special effects but was lacking in the scary department. Now there is a remake of the 1991 movie Point Break. This film is full of unknown actors and is full of cool extreme sports scenes that no one should attempt. Here is what this writer thought of this movie.
A once famous extreme sports enthusiast named Johnny Utah ( Luke Bracey) has decided to become an FBI agent after a terrible accident happened years ago to a dear friend. He has been asked by his superiors to go undercover inside a group of highly skilled sports athletes led by a man named Bodhi ( Edgar Ramirez). The FBI believes this man and some of his associates are professional criminals. He is asked to find out why they are attempting so many dangerous feats and see if he can stop them before they cause more havoc and destruction. He will have to earn their trust and take risks to find out what their plans are, and with time running out the question is will Utah be able to get the information he needs to complete this case and put these people away for a long time. It is a film full of insane sports acts and takes viewers to exotic locales all over the world. Why are these people committing these high end thefts? How deep will Utah have to go to find the answers he needs? And will anybody be able to survive the tasks that lie ahead?
This was a terrible film really. The special effects are good and the moments that involved death defying risks were both awesome and insane at the same time. The soundtrack is not awful with songs that add a bit to a few key scenes and add intensity to the moments that could have some viewers on the edge of their seats. There are not any well known faces here which does hurt this film in a number of ways. It will not be a film most people will enjoy nor is it really a film that is worth paying money to see.
This movie deserves 2/10. This film gets such a low rating because it is lacking too much in a concrete plot that really makes sense and the characters are mostly pretty bland. The only one who is really given any chance to grow and develop is Utah, the rest of the cast doesn’t seem to have much to do in this movie and only really show up when things get dangerous or if they are needed and most of them don’t last that long. But what really hurts this movie is the fact that it isn’t until mid way in the movie that an attempt at a plot is made but it is really weak and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The reason these criminals are doing these acts is absurd and they are not even sure if it is worth it to finish all of them. It is truly a remake that should not have been made and overall is missing too many things to be any good.
If you enjoyed the original movie this one is sure to disappoint you. If you are looking for a movie full of action and extreme sports you may like this movie. But if you are looking for a film with real substance then you will want to miss this one. Point Break comes out this Friday.
