Band beats sophomore slump, debuts at #5 with second album.
The conventional wisdom in this era of Gagas and Skrillexes and Beibers and Mileys is that rock and roll is dead. We want big dumb beats that thump our fenders and shake our ear buds. Well, the thing about conventional wisdom is that it’s often wrong.
The Pretty Reckless’s second album, Going to Hell, dropped a couple of weeks ago and immediately shot to #5 on the Billboard albums chart. First single “Heaven Knows” has been the #1 rock song in the country for three weeks, and singer Taylor Momsen is the second female singer to top the Mainstream Rock Songs chart in the last 24 years. That’s a pretty impressive list of accomplishments, but the simple fact is that “Heaven Knows” is a tasty cut, sort of a dystopian update of Billy Squier’s “The Stroke”:
