Jay Snook reviews this new raunchy buddy comedy.
—
The main character of this film is a man that is relate able to men in many ways. He is shy, without many friends, and has little to no idea how to interact with people. When I was a younger man I had similar traits, and it made life hard sometimes. The film is full of raunchy jokes and has an awesome soundtrack and deals with issues that come up for all men sometimes. For these reasons and more I think this is a must see for guys of all ages.
Doug Harris has lived a normal life doing the normal things like going to school, getting good grades and becoming a success in business. He also has won the heart of a beautiful woman who he is soon going to marry. Life seems perfect, but there is a problem. He has no best man, and he tries everyone he can think but to no avail. The wedding is getting closer, and he has no idea what to do. He cannot bare to tell his fiance that he has no best man yet, let alone no groomsman either. What is he going to do? Is there anyone out there who can help him out? All he wants is to give his girl the wedding of her dreams, but just how on earth can he make this dream a reality?
Let me introduce you to Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) a man who has helped many men in this situation and will gladly give a hand to Doug too. He owns a company called The Best Man Inc, and he provides services to those like Doug who have no one in their lives to fill this position. He has been doing this for many years, and it has become a very profitable business venture. Doug lets Jimmy know that he needs seven groomsman, which he says is a mission impossible. It is something that they joke about in his business, it is has never been done before. But when Doug offers him a substantial pay, he agrees to give it a shot.
Once we meet the groomsman, hilarity ensues from there. They all have their own special party tricks to perform in case things get weird or people ask them odd ball questions and divert the attention away from them. Jimmy has to become Bic Mitchum, who is a priest who lives in North Dakota and just got back from a tour in the Middle East. There are scenes of lurid acts at Doug’s bachelor party that will have you rolling in the aisles, and moments that will warm you heart. It is all about how important a wedding day can be, and some of the things that can go wrong in the process.
The most interesting thing about this movie is two men who are used to living life by themselves, and how through an odd turn of events they start to build a true friendship. From the time these men have to play football with Doug’s father in law friends, to the video they make of all these great things they did together, to the wonderful time they all make sure Doug has as his last night as a bachelor, they truly start to connect. It is scary and unfamiliar for them both, but when it comes down to it they know it is where they are supposed to end up. I really enjoyed watching this develop, and I hope you will too.
The film has some good special effects going for it, and the wedding scene is amazing. From the decorations to the outfits down to the band and the ceremony it turned into a wedding that people only dream of having. The soundtrack is also genius, with some many good songs that bring scenes to life and will have you singing along. Whoever put this music into the film really knew what they were doing. But the best part is the cast. Josh Gad and Kevin Hart are the perfect pair in this movie, the tryout scene had me laughing harder than I had in years. See this movie and you will understand what I mean. The groomsman also are hilarious, they not only add to the comedic element but they all just gel perfectly, it is hard to imagine anyone else playing these roles it wouldn’t have been the same.
If you are a fan of Kevin Hart, you must run out to see this movie, it is some of his best work in years. If you are looking for a great comedy to see with your friends, look no further. It is a comedy that has so many good things going for it. I would rate it at a 8/10. Run out and see this movie, you will not regret it.
