Stephen Powell is the Executive Director at Mentoring USA based in New York, NY, leading its program expansion and technical assistance efforts across the nation in major cities such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Newark and Houston. Stephen also leads an Open Society Foundation-Campaign for Black Male Achievement sponsored male mentor recruitment initiative entitled MEN-TOUR, and has provided mentoring technical assistance and support to the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare; Mentoring USA-Italia; Susan Taylor’s National CARES Mentoring Movement/A New Way Forward; and the faith community.
Powell’s past commentaries on leadership, organizational strategy and mentoring can be found in the New York Times, Black Enterprise, the Costco Connection and other leading national publications. He has been honored by numerous organizations, including being recognized by the White House as a “Champion of Change Following in the Footsteps of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”
