Tripp & Tyler have done it again – another great parody video that hits right at the center of pop culture.
This one is close to my heart. I think what really makes me ill about the sites that Tripp & Tyler so brilliantly parody here is when they say something like, “Find the match God intended for you”… Basically asserting that God speaks through them —- and somehow only through them! Like eHarmony (or God forbid, a secular dating site!) doesn’t have God’s attention, but ChristianMingle does.
So I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw what Tripp & Tyler had done here. I love that they’re calling out the BS that is the Purity Myth – the idea that a man should have to forgive his wife for not being “pure” enough for him.
It’s yet another funny and topical video that shows just how ridiculous our society can be – and how funny Tripp & Tyler are.
Hey Joanna, as a Christian, I thought it was quite clever AND funny. Not sure why anyone would get all bent out of shape about it. Last time I checked, at least according to theology as I understand it, God created everything, and that includes a sense of humor 😉
I didn’t say it wasn’t amusing but like I said, I don’t see anyone making light of any other faiths. Personally, I wouldn’t use any dating site. I like the old fashion way of doing things. Okay, so I’m a tight ass but this just struck a wrong chord with me. I understand the reasoning behind Christian Dating sites and that’s pretty much to find like minded people. And actually the name is pretty catchy.
I’m not sure of the “purity” thing.Maybe I missed something.
I am still waiting on that muslim with a back pack joke.
why is this site so anti-Christian. from most of the warren blumenfeld’s articles to much of the religion section, there is a strong knee-jerk attacking of Christians and all the things they say and do. It seems usually from a far left “progressive” standpoint. is it wrong that Christians want to date and marry others of similar morals and lifestyle. Or is it because in general, many Christians are conservative and tend to not vote for the left. So it is acceptable to bash them. you must know there are jewish and muslim dating sites similar to Christianmingle.
First, we’re not even remotely anti-Christian. We do have some atheist writers, but in no way are we anti-Christian. That being said, the Purity Myth is dangerous to men AND women. Beyond that, the idea that a website can sell you “God’s match for you” should be considered blasphemy by any thinking Christian. God doesn’t speak through a website. And certainly not for profit!! It’s gross and offensive to Christianity to presume that a website can find you “God’s match”. There are other sites where you can meet fellow Christians, and sites like J Date that are wildly popular for… Read more »
Joanne, show me ONE article that makes fun of ANY OTHER faith….
Its open season on Christians. God forbid we make fun of Moslems or Jews they way Christians are ridiculed and you will be called a Anti-Semite or a Racist. But its all ok if its a Christian. These people are the biggest hypocrites ever.
You are not anti Christian? Let me ridicule Muslims and Jews in the way you have Christians and we’ll see if anything I say or write is posted. Deal? The question is can you make fun of other religions in the same way or to the same extent as you do to Christians.
You are not anti-Christian? What’s with the girl’s name? Rebecca Esther Sara Bathsheba– all names of important Old Testament women who were significant to the faith. So if I make a parody of an African American dating website with Shamieka Shakia Taniqua Washington as the female character and Shaquan Jefferson as the male character that would be ok, right? Or am I skirting on the edge there? And these characters spoke a ghetto dialect with poor grammar and sounded generally uneducated you wouldn’t call that racist right? Or would you. That would be inexcusable right? Why would it be different.
Courage, we can easily take this to a level of stereotyping, something that GMP appears to be against. But again, stereotyping is unacceptable in most scenarios unless it’s stereotyping of Christians. I’m still waiting for someone to explain “purity myth.”
BTW, I did a quick google search … within seconds, I found “Jdate” …. Jewish online dating for Jews, Also found “Top 10 Muslim dating sites.” I can’t wait to see a parody with about those sites….. not.
I’m not sure why I continue to be frustrated with this, you’d think that by now I’d be use to it.
One of the weirdest ads I ever saw was a billboard for “The Lord’s Gym”, that showed Jesus under the cross looking like he was doing a pushup. At first I thought it was a bad joke, but it was real.
OMG stop it! I would kill to get my hand on that!!
Check out http://www.lordsgym.org, I could not make this up if I tried.
It takes a lot of strength to bear the sins of the world.
