Just when you thought there was nothing good about -41 C (-41.8 degrees F) weather, one awesome dude in South Porcupine, Ontario proves you wrong.
Here’s what you do:
Boiling water goes into the squirt gun (wear oven mitts or thick waterproof gloves!), you go into the freezing outdoors, and then you spray.
Result?
Huffington Post explains:
Scientist and author Dr. Ainissa Ramirez explains that the hot water freezes — changes from a liquid to a solid — as soon it comes into contact with the cold air. That’s why the water appears like mist; it’s no longer water but many tiny ice crystals.
“The same can happen if you toss out water from a cup from the ledge of the building. The people below will never feel it, because the water will freeze on the way down (to something like snow),” Ramirez wrote in an email to The Huffington Post.

i don’t reckon it’ll ever get cold enough where i live to try this, but it looks awesome. One tip for you though, putting boiling water in your water pistol isn’t so good for the inside bits of the water pistol. Back in the day when you used to have to defrost your freezer every so often, my brother and I watched mum using a water spray bottle with warm water to melt the ice. I’m from Australia – could I ask what would happen with a tepid or cold water squirted out like that in that temperature? Sorry to ask – if I could test it out, I would!
