We received an email from Noreen Hardwick, who wrote, “It is strange that I came across The Good Men Project this week. Which is the same week I found an article my mother wrote (God Bless her soul) 20 years ago titled, They Were Damn Good Men. I scanned it and sent it to various members of my family. My mother’s grandsons, who are men now, were excited to receive it. I am forwarding it to you. Is this the kind of thing you are looking for?”
We are Noreen, thank you. We are fascinated by that glimpse of that time — the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, “when so many Irish men came here, bringing so little and giving so much.” Because, after all, “There was a subway to be dug. There was a City Hall to be built. There were streetcars to be driven…the strong back and the willing hands of the Irish men did a lot to change the face of Toronto.”
