This comment is by MediaHound on the post Sandusky Convicted: 45 of 48 Counts of Child Sexual Abuse.
I keep wondering at the questions around goodness and men – and even women for that matter.
Goodness just does not exist in some people – they lack it – they lack the capacity for it – they just see it as a way to con others. Because it is presumed that everyone has innate goodness there is far too much benefit of the doubt. Lucifer has a beautiful face, but is also the devil. Judge by actions and not by appearance.
Sandusky is a predatory pedophile – that is a pattern that becomes fixed in late teens – so there are about 50 years to account for. His history is sketchy, but there is one interesting set of facts. His parents were involved in youth projects, and in his teens that was what Sandusky knew. He learned that sports and vulnerability went together, and it’s no surprise that he used the two for his own ends.
The Second Mile has helped many kids, and no one can deny that. There have been so many amazing people who through goodness gave to others – they gave friendship – hope – even a future. But it was founded by a man who knew that sports and vulnerability could be manipulated for other ends. That means second mile was built upon an lie – upon predation – upon intent. As such, second Mile should close – be gone – It can be replaced and people with goodness can have their dignity and goodness given back to them to use with the good intent they have.
The Second Mile is really just a vehicle for other people’s goodness, but it was bought and built with anything but Goodness. Intent counts, even more than out come. If the Intent had been goodness, people would understand. But people are still dazed and confused, because they simply can’t fathom the intent. Close it down – let others with goodness do the work.
… and take that monstrous Bronze Gargoyle outside Beaver Stadium and melt it down. It’s homage to Intent that was all about one person. When it counted that person placed their own image and empire over the opportunity to deal with intent that had no place in any locker room or with any child at it’s side.

Good observation; sometimes is a curse to be good because no matter how much you try you are who you are. The other side sometimes has its perks and plessures but the balance of both is what makes it unboring.
