This is a comment by HelixLuco on the post “The Most Offensive Word in Michigan: Vagina“.
“Heterosexual sex and the balance of power between the sexes outside the bedroom are inextricably linked, and access to birth control is probably the most powerful tool for altering inequality between the sexes in existence, so it’s pretty much inevitable that the abortion debate and any other discussion of birth control will be all tied up in lawmakers’ attitudes towards sexual relationships.”

The debate lingers because abortion is now simply “birth control” and the debate is now whether taxpayers should be forced to fund abortions when they believe it to be murder.
” MEN on the other hand have in reality ZERO real choices for choosing to becoming a parent. Does this men there is a huge inequality in favour of women then.”
Abortion rights advocates (who don’t also support with equal fervor post-conception choice for men) are, in fact, ANTI-choice. Hence, the left is just as anti-choice as the right and has no right to critcize anyone for denying others their rights. They are just as guilty.

It is not a question of serious debate here in the United States either, at least among individuals who operate in a world of facts. The problem is that our fourth estate is owned by the plutocrats which has a vested interest in pushing a viewpoint not based on fact or reason and treating it… Read more »
Well, possibly – but there has to be a fair share of people who agree or at least nod in agreement when these things are said on TV, or it wouldn’t fly, right? If, say, the vast majority of the public really don’t care about the gender of people getting married, then no amount of jumping up and down and flailing of arms on the part of religious people and media is going to create a fuss. Unless you believe the Evil Media(TM) is brainwashing people?
I think the Media creates a feedback loop and can go a long way toward brainwashing people. Most people are not particularly bright and if they hear something on TV enough they believe it is true.
