“If they want to kill, they’ll find a way.”

This is a comment by Quadruple A and Mike Conway on the post “Mass Shooting in Aurora, Colorado – Tell Me Why We Don’t Need Gun Control Again?

Quadruple A said:

“I am very sympathetic to gun control advocates but we have a constitutional and cultural framework that makes gun control very difficult. Laws, particularly criminalizing actions, alone can’t fix our society. We need to change inequality and especially poverty and the cultural attitudes that lead to inequality and poverty. Most importantly, we need to change society so that it is more open, tolerant, and compassionate. We can’t heal a violent society if we don’t see our complicity in that violence.”

Mike Conway added:

“Two things: 1) Everyone in that theater was disarmed. The theater specifically disallows firearms in the building, so no one had any guns. The place was basically a shooting gallery for the gunman. I’m just waiting for a mass shooting at a place where everyone is armed.

“2) How are gun control laws going to change anything, since criminals, being criminals, don’t really obey the law anyway? Just more laws for them to break. If they want to kill, they’ll find a way.

“I agree with Quadruple A—laws alone ain’t going to do it. We need to change hearts and minds as well as the situations that make people commit acts of evil.”

    Precisely!

Let’s take a look at current news in Canada-a nation known for extremely strict firearms regulations as compared to the United States:

Toronto police probe three shootings in 24 hours
Police are investigating three shootings that left one man clinging to life and three others injured, as a violence-marred week draws to a close.

In total, 31 people have been shot in the last six days, starting with a ruthless public shooting at an east-end block party on Monday.

And what was that ruthless public shooting?
The shootings came as the city continues to grapple with the aftermath of a mass shooting at a community block party on Danzig Street in Scarborough that killed two people and injured 23 others.

This is not a problem unique to the United States where our basic human right to defend our lives and our loved ones is still semi-acknowledged.

Creating more laws will only get criminals to think of more ways not to get caught. These people spend every day thinking of ways to commit their actions while flying under the radar.
