“Au contraire mon frère… As a man, I’m tired of the constant and not-so-subtle insults I must bear from Hollywood, beer companies, and commercial interests at large that proclaim with knowing certainty ‘because you’re a man, I know what knobs and buttons to push to make money come out the other end. Here, look at this bleached blond, big boobed monstrosity holding our product—you like this and our product will get you some.’
“Our gradual transformational to a more-equal opportunity, gender neutral, mutually exploitative and consistently cynical world where our sisters must equally wade through this bullsh*t, just feels like a marginal improvement.”

I couldn’t agree more. Have you ever smelled Axe body spray? Or body wash? It’s nasty. It smells cheap and overwhelming. But young dudes buy that crap in bulk because of ( probably) the ads that show a hipster 20 something guy getting very nearly raped by sexually ravenous, gorgeous young women who are just so hot for their Axe that nothing else matters. Some of them are funny, like the hair product ones where they make fun of super spiky gelled hair, but you have to think scores of young men buy that crap because they believe, even a little bit, that women are concerned with what cologne you wear.
Ain’t it cool how marketing campaigns end up influencing the social stereotypes they came into being to take advantage of?
OTOH, maybe Axe smells cheap and overwhelming because young men feel a need to be cheap and overwhelming.
