This comment by Patrick on the post Gallery if Dads Pointing Guns at Daughters’ Prom Dates Is Confusing
While I understand the premise of the photos, especially since I have a 16 year-old daughter. You never point a gun at someone unless you mean to do them harm. Not even as a joke. This was and is a major rule that was drilled into me at a very young age. Growing up in western South Dakota, and being around guns my whole life. My opinion, the photos just send the wrong message. ..

Question of the Day:
Considering thousands of people die every year in the US from gun accidents should we insist on basic gun safety, #1 being never point a gun at people unless you must for self defense?

Thanks Mike. We need to educated and encourage responsible gun ownership which also involves basic safety regulations like universal background checks etc. There are too many gun deaths in the US the result of accident and irresponsible and reckless behavior.
I grew up with dozens of guns, and Jeff Cooper’s four rules:
All guns are always loaded.
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
(btw, the first rule does not mean that guns should be stored loaded; for anything but a self defense weapon that’s clearly stupid, but rather that all guns should be treated as though they are always loaded).
