“One refreshing thing about the media coverage of this case is that some of the talking heads have focused on the affects of abuse on the young men. I particularly applaud those like Buzz Bissinger who did not shy away from talking about the details of what the young men testified to. I think that may help sway some people to reach out to male survivors and create or support services for men who need help. It has been my experience that sharing the details of what happened to me often changed many people’s minds, so I hope that will play out on a larger level.
“I also hope we stop the politicking. It is still happening, with at least some people presenting the cover-up and the abuse itself as a ‘men’s problem’, as if only men would do these things. That does not help anyone, and shifts the focus off helping abused men and boys.”
