Over two years and investigations by 8 committees found no Administration wrongdoing in Benghazi. Can Congress finally get back to work?
The Republican led House Intelligence Committee (12 Republicans to 9 Democrats) concluded that there was no deliberate wrongdoing by the Obama administration in the handling of the 2012 attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi that resulted in the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, U.S. Foreign Service Information Officer Sean Smith, and CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. The report also states that although the administration process for developing “talking points” was “flawed”, the talking points reflected the conflicting intelligence assessments in the days immediately following the attack.
Representative Mike Thompson of St. Helena, the second-ranking Democrat on the committee, said the report “confirms that no one was deliberately misled, no military assets were withheld and no stand-down order (to U.S. forces) was given.” This report is the result of a two-year investigation by the committee who voted Thursday to have it declassified (U.S. intelligence agencies with have to approve making this report public).
Important to note that this committee (although led by GOP representatives) is not the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee led by Republican Darryl Issa, famous for his endless pursuit of illusive wrongdoing here. The deadly violence in Benghazi has now been investigated by 8 committees (the House Intelligence Committee, the Senate Intelligence Committee, The independent State Department Accountability Review Board, the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform and the House committee on Foreign Affairs). None of them uncovered any evidence of deliberate wrongdoing or a cover-up.
Having spend all this time and money (millions of dollars) and found nothing, it is hard to understand the rational behind the announcement by John Boehner that he is establishing a special committee with a reported budget of $3.3 million to investigate the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi.
Considering we have no immigration reform bill, no tax reform bill, no jobs bill, no infrastructure bill, no VA proper funding, no humanitarian solution to the southern border crisis (and the list goes on), is this really the best use of the taxpayer funded time and resources of our representatives in DC?

Nothing to see here, move along.!
Enough is enough. It’s time to divide the country up. Separate it roughly between the coasts and flyover country. Call em what you want. We have two sides with very little in common anymore. We still speak the same language, but we can hardly communicate. Just watch this comment get reinterpreted. It can happen peacefully or it can be violent. You can guess which is more likely. We’re much closer to this than people realize.
Richard, These findings are the same as all the others and they come from Republicans. There is nothing there. Millions of tax payer money was spent, endless hours, piles of documents and there is nothing there. 2 years and 8 committees with endless hours of hearings and run by Republicans and there is nothing there. I think we should demand Congress get some work done on all the issues I mentioned in the article and more to justify their salaries, benefits and most importantly their constitutional obligations that come with being elected to their high office. Enough with ideological and… Read more »
Tsach. The question of a stand down order is one thing. Obama said he told the military to do what it took to get the folks out of there. The military did nothing. There’s a disconnect. Obama and Hillary both knew from that evening it wasn’t a protest. But the CIA honchos in DC modified the intel from their guys on the ground at some point, but not before Obama and Clinton started their lies. Pannetta said you don’t send troops when you don’t know what’s going on. That’s military bullshit. Sending troops may be how you find out, but… Read more »
