This comment by Tom Brechlin on the post From Colonel and Pentagon Aide to Homeless
After doing a little research, it appears that the numbers of homeless veterans is much higher. National coalition of the homeless says it’s more like 130,000 to 200,000. It also appears that much of what is being done is through outside organizations.
That’s why the recent budget deal that cuts military retiree benefits by $6 billion dollars is a problem, don’t ya think?
How many of these veterans are retirees?
But then again. homelessness in general has hit men the most and we don’t see much happening.

Do you think we as a nation have a duty of care to our veterans who come home from conflict or retire and need help?

The duty you have is to make sure there are no veterans coming home from conflicts any more, dammit! The world can live very well without American conflicts. So can America.
No argument there. However, I’m sure you would agree that if we , as a nation, decide to send our young people into conflict and war we then must take care of them.
We absolutely have a duty of care to our veterans. Any nation that asks its young men and women to put their lives in harms way and serve, in peace times and war time, and make all the sacrifices our military is asked to make, watching over us, fighting and dying for us and keeping us safe, has a duty to support and care for them when they need it.
