This is a comment by David Byron on the post “A History of LGBT Characters and Themes in Comics“.
“Mystique (the blue skinned woman who can shape shift) is probably the most well known LBGTX character that Marvel have — I think she’s appeared in most of the movies although they haven’t portrayed her as lesbian. She was depicted in a very long term relationship with another woman (Destiny) although I think she’s had shorter relationships with men too.
“The whole point of the X-Men series of comics about mutants is to act as an allegory for racism and other prejudices. The X-Men are mutants. Mutants are feared and hated by ordinary humans because they were born different. All of the comics are about dealing with prejudice.”

Okay, surely I can’t be the only one who thinks that the whole mutant oppression thing is the *least* interesting part of the X-Men? For me the X-men were all about cool powers and adventures and stuff like that.
Haha trust me your not, but I think that’s what pulls people in.
