In a recent poll on popular consumer oriented site The Consumerist, EA was voted the Worst company in America, joining a select group of companines that include entities such as BP. Handily beating runner up Bank of America by a margin of nearly 2:1, the victory is the latest in a string of bad press for the company that really began to ramp up as fans of the recent Mass Effect 3 were upset at the series' ending.
With this "victory," it remains to be seen what exactly will happen now that an video game publishing company has now gained the ire of the public at large. Will customers stop buying EA's games? Will EA listen closely to the companints from it's audience? Not being one to take anything sitting down, EA released this statement to Kotaku
We're sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren't nominated this year. We're going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.
Quite the statement to make after winning such a title. As Forbes says, many of EA practices that have led to them getting this award, namely DLC, are some of the very reasons why games aren't respected as art, where they could be.
