This week, Nintendo showed off its new Wii U console along with a game demo of "New Super Mario Bros. Mii."
The game is familiar territory, but the controls are brand new. You can use the left and right triggers to spin around and you can even tap the Wii U controller’s touchscreen to get to the menu. The game adapts well to the new controller’s classic four-button scheme and dual joysticks.
You can select between several protagonists, from your standard Mario and Luigi to a handful of customizable Mii avatars. Nintendo says you’ll be able to drop your own Miis into the game.
The company also introduced their new touch screen wiimote, which allows users a host of new functionality — including switching the game from TV to handheld in seconds.
There’s no lag at all, so you can switch between displays without missing a beat. Nintendo’s representatives wouldn’t turn off the TV or switch channels, but if they had, I would have been able to play on my controller while using the television for other things — perfect for multitasking or shared living rooms.
