Ervin L Johnson is a self taught cartoonist. He actually turned down acceptance to the prestigious Arts High School of Newark, New Jersey, to limit the financial burden on his family after his father left. He would continue drawing in spare time, but it would be years before he considered his talent professionally. When his entire department was let go while he was working as a Technical lead, Ervin took it as a sign.
Not wanting to blow his severance, he limited his budget to no more than an occasional $15/month and used social networks to spread the word about Single Dad Diaries. Within a few months, the comic earned a dozen "cartoon of the day" awards and gained a following at viewshound.com. Ervin has decided not to wait, and is self syndicated. He has publbished his first collection of comics, "We're not the Huxtables," and will soon release a second collection, tentatively titled "Hate never tasted so good." The new book will feature a themed collection of comics, as well as unpublished works. If you're on social networks, say hey to him on Facebook, Twitter, or Chime.in.
It only takes a couple of strips to see that Ervin is doing some very layered and sophisticated humor here. Nicely done.
Thanks Mark, I appreciate it!
