This shocking video, which contains disturbing graphic content at the end, chronicles a year in the life of a Croatian abuse survivor. Each day, she took a selfie. And each photograph opens a window into her tortured life, focusing the lens of truth on horrors most people would rather leave in the darkness of ignorance.

Domestic violence is a universal scourge that affects millions of men, women, and children of every nationality, every race, every income level, and every socio-economic background. It won’t stop until we make it real, as this video does, and make prevention a national priority.
For more information on the impact of domestic violence in the U.S. and current prevention efforts, you can visit the following websites:
National Network to End Domestic Violence
You can also support local programs that provide shelter, financial resources, legal advice, and other assistance to survivors trying to escape their abusers and reclaim their lives.
The next photo could be this woman’s last.
The time to act is now.

DV in whatever form is awful…. All I can say is that in my close group of friends, family, and neighbors, so many of us have been the woman in the video….and we all stayed in the relationship because we loved that person and children may be involved….looking back, the “keep the family together” argument just endangers the smaller, weaker, and more financially feeble person in the relationship…. Perhaps it is too difficult for some people to understand what leads up to the point where one person will punch another person in the face….I did not see it coming…(hindsight is… Read more »
Erin and Josh,
There is room here for articles from all those perspectives and no policy of exclusion. We can look for those pieces, but we can’t make people write them. We often encourage commenters who want to see more of something on the site to submit a piece if you have something compelling and relevant to say on a topic, along the lines of be the change you want to see in the world. You’ll find my email on the masthead if you’d like to send something.
Thomas …. sorry but I don’t know if you go by Tom or Thomas …. GMP pulls articles from all over the web … Joanna just pulled one about atheists being welcomed into a church. I doubt you would find all the authors of various articles relating to female on male abuse would have issues with reprinting.
Side note, I don’t go by “Thomas” because only two people called me that … MY ass wipe BIL and the nuns in grade school.
Oh, before I forget … appears that this women stayed with the abuser in that there were different times where she’d healed and was again injured. Why on earth did she say with him? So perhaps someone at GMP can delve into the psychological reasons why women AND men stay with abusers?
Tom, GMP has run numerous pieces on DV against men, including these two:

https://goodmenproject.com/featured-content/opening-the-door-on-abuse-of-men-wcz/.
And I have published two pieces on why people stay in destructive relationships.
https://goodmenproject.com/ethics-values/why-we-stay-with-people-who-hurt-us-fiff/
https://goodmenproject.com/ethics-values/7-ugly-reasons-stay-fiff/.
Sorry if what I said appeared to say that it doesn’t but the vast majority are men against women. That’s all I’m saying. I would think that a site that is devoted to men would have the majority showing men being abused so as to heighten awareness which is desperately needed.
I commend GMP when a friend of mine committed suicide and GMP gave tribute, so yes, I know GMP does, at times, address female on male DV. But a I said, female on male is far less exposed.
Tom, may I ask you a sincere question? Why does GMP’s position as a website devoted to men exclude men addressing the topic of DV from only the position of violence against men? Men need to be part of the conversation when they are are victims of DV as much as perputating DV. What better place to have both conversations then here at GMP right? I do agree that we should be talkind thinking more about DV against men. I am really interested in hearing about what DV looks like when men are victims. Do men suffer similar injuries like… Read more »
Erin, that’s a reasonable question. When I first started coming to GMP, I understood it to truly be a site where things would be discussed that other main stream sites weren’t. Pick any feminist or liberal site and you will find countless discussions regarding DV (men on women) . For that matter, main stream media/news will provide an endless stream of male on female DV information. We’ve had years of educating society regarding man on women DV. And sprinkled through the years there would be a mention of women and men DV but never a full fledged effort to anywhere… Read more »
And what about male on male? Male on male DV usually brings even more consequences and bigger injuries than female on male.
If you want DV against men to be more talked about, it should be about all men. Even more about the ones that bring even bigger injuries and risks.
Josh, you are right about that. Stats show that same sex relationships have the same level of DV. Perhaps, rather then the endless streams of warm and fuzzies about gay marriage, perhaps some attention could be placed on the problems these couples experience.
And I have personally witnessed male on male DV, so yes,it is something that should be brought out and in the open.
“Domestic violence is a universal scourge that affects millions of men, women, and children of every nationality, every race, every income level, and every socio-economic background. It won’t stop until we make it real, as this video does, and make prevention a national priority. ” But we seldom see articles here and other liberal sites that reflect the level of DV toward men. Why is that? Although GMP recognizes that it’s an issue, it appears that most of what’s published has to do with DV against women. It’s sad that with a wealth of information that’s available on the internet,… Read more »
