What do angry coconuts, gummy heads, and 690 miles have in common? They’re part of something to add to your Bucket List.
For the 7th year, I packed up my two sons, and we hit the road in search of…anything. Or nothing. because you really never know what you’re going to find.
For four days every year, over 690 miles of the the Hwy 127 corridor turn into a parade of people visiting thousands of yard sales. There are collectors, families, people in search of one-of-a kind items, and people like us, just out to see what there is. My girlfriend came along for the fun.
The World’s Longest Yard Sale, also known as the 127 Sale began as an experiment to get drivers off of the interstate and into the back roads of America. The initial idea started as a route along Highway 127 in Kentucky and Tennessee with the headquarters in Fentress County, Tennessee. Over the years, the route has grown and now stretches from Gadsden, Alabama all the way to Addison, Michigan. It’s more than places to buy things; you get to hear the stories behind the awesome collection of weirdness.
I’ve learned things over the years that will help you if you decide to take the plunge, or just want to imagine being there:
1. You will drive some through some of the prettiest country The South has to offer.
2. There will be sudden stops when you see things like this.
3. Very few of the deals are really “good deals”, but most are “one of a kind” deals.
4. Along the route, you will meet some of the friendliest and most unique people from around the world. They have things like this.
5. Be warned. You can get wrapped up in the stuff very quickly.
6. Nostalgia happens.
6. Even fuzzy bad TV nostalgia.
7. Be ready to ask what’s actually for sale. It could be anything.
8. And like ROSCOE says, clean up after yourself.

Ya know what I’ve wanted for the longest time? Is the leg lamp from “A Christa Story.” Our house resembles the one in the movie and I’d love to put it in my front window.
