Mike Berry hears the ‘Dad Song’ and realizes he has the best job in the world.

It’s blazing hot in Central Indiana where I’m from. No, scratch that, it’s not blazing … it’s oppressive. We’ve had a few pop up thunder showers which leaves it even more overwhelming. But, welcome to the Midwest in the good ole US of A! In-spite of the extreme heat, I’m loving this summer … so far!
I’m loving time with my kids like this so much that I don’t think I’ll ever want to switch back to working outside of the home.

The reason? This summer is very different than any others previous for me. For the first time in my 14-year parenting career, my wife heads out every morning to work outside of our home in downtown Indianapolis and I stay home with my children. It used to be the other way around. In fact, for all those years, I headed out. But, the change of pace is good. I’m loving time with my kids like this so much that I don’t think I’ll ever want to switch back to working outside of the home. Truth is, I’m a full-time author now, so I still do work (other than the job of keeping up with my kids and taking care of my home). It’s just much more sporadic, with a lot of early mornings, and massive cups of coffee!
Today, I was sitting in my home-office laughing about some of the hilarious things we’ve already done (that mom may or may not approve of) when a link to the brand new Dad Song parody video from The Holderness Family came across my newsfeed. First off … this family is one of my favorites in the land. They make me laugh uncontrollably (If you haven’t seen their spoof of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” you’re missing out).
Every syllable of the new Dad Song video made me laugh. Why? Well, it’s simple really: It’s us! Nearly every one of us! We dads are a unique species. If you don’t believe me just ask our spouses, or significant other. They’ll testify. I can see my wife nodding her head as she reads this!
As I wiped tears from laughter out of my eyes after watching the parody, the thought crossed my mind:
Being a dad is seriously the greatest thing ever! I wouldn’t trade it for all of the money in the world.

Being a dad is seriously the greatest thing ever! I wouldn’t trade it for all of the money in the world. Maybe just enough money to fix all of the broken stuff in our house. Kidding of course.
The Dad Song is my song. I smile because I’ve done many of the things they portrait in the video (eh hem … nothing with open flames or methane gas, however). Mostly, I’m trying everyday to live life to the fullest with my precious family.
So, dads, watch this video. It’ll make you smile. People … if you’re married to a dad, watch this video, have a good laugh, and then share it with him. To everyone who is a father, have a great Father’s Day Weekend!
