He will teach her so much about what it is to be a man as she teaches him what it is to be a woman.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been blessed with both a daughter and a son. I love my daughter. She is smart and funny, compassionate and cuddly. Currently, I am her favorite parent and I am soaking up every hug I can get from her because I know toddlers are fickle people and soon Dad will be her favorite. I love her to pieces. She is my firstborn firecracker.
But, I gotta tell ya, I’m also pretty excited to have a little boy in my life.
You see, I’m a girl. I know that may come as a shock, but once you pick your jaw off the floor, please keep reading. As a girl, I’m wired differently. I had different experiences growing up. I had girl friends in high school and we had girl conversations. My daughter will no doubt have similar friends and have similar talks with them and I like to think I’ll understand what they’re growing through. Puberty, periods, the whole thing.
But boys? I don’t have a clue what goes through their head as they get older.
I had a lot of guy friends growing up and still do to this day. Most have respected me, loved me, and helped me choose the man I chose to marry. They have been some of my best friends, but I still don’t know how their brain works, what they think, how they feel about certain things because, ya know, I’m a girl.
I’m greatly looking forward to having an inside look into the mind and heart of a little boy as he grows to be a man. I want to know what makes him tick, what makes him different, how he responds to certain events because he is a boy. I want to eavesdrop on his conversations with friends so I can learn what on Earth they talk about and why it’s so important to them.
I have a husband so I do get several glimpses into a man’s mind, but I didn’t mold it or shape it or watch it from the beginning. His mom did that and she did a great job. And now I get the opportunity to learn about being a man from my son.
He will teach me so much about what it is to be a man as I teach him what it is to be a woman. We will not always see eye to eye, of course, but I’m so excited to have the opportunity for us to learn from one another.
