To all the dads out there, what challenges do you face as a father in today’s modern day and age? Despite these obstacles, what are the most rewarding aspects of being a father? How have you overcome these hardships?
In a society where norms and stereotypes constantly highlight the role of mothers as nurturing caretakers in families, it makes you wonder, what about the dads? Fathers have an equally important role in the lives of their children as well, and this is something that is not too often talked about.
This Father’s Day, the Love Letter Project, a Vancouver-based community project, is asking fathers to write an open letter for their #DadsMatterToo campaign. The project would like you to share your story of fatherhood, in the hopes that they will change societal perceptions of father figures and bring to light the significance of fathers in a familial setting.
The deadline for letter submissions is June 14, 2015, and more details on the campaign can be found via Dads Matter Too.
The whole premise of the Love Letter Project is to let others know that they are not alone. Founded by FionaMcGlynn, the project asks a person to consider the greatest obstacle they have ever overcome and to write an open letter to the next person who may be facing the same challenge. These letters are subsequently published on their website and social media channels for the public to read, and a select handful have also been published in an art book in the Vancouver community.
The Love Letter Project team greatly believes that you can positively impact another person’s life with something as simple, yet astoundingly powerful, as words.
