100 Words on Love, by Allan Mott
–
Closing my eyes, I wait for sleep to come, but my brain doesn’t want to shut down—it wants a status update.
“Are you still alone?” it asks.
“Yes.”
“Is that going to change?”
“I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe not.”
“How do you feel about this?”
“Fine. Good even.”
“Really?”
“Yep.”
“Are you sure?”
“I think so. Pretty sure.”
“But why?”
“It’s cheesy.”
“I don’t care. Tell me.”
“I’m happy. I love myself. Life is good.”
“That’s so cheesy.”
“Told ya. Can I go to sleep now?”
“Yeah, knock yourself out.”
“Thanks. Nice talking to you.”
“Whatever, cheeseball.”
