100 Words on Love, by Brad Hester

Sometimes it’s dogs. Sometime it’s trucks. Today, it’s phone cases, non-stop. Again! Almost to school. He’ll get out and peace and quiet will return. He drones on. I drive faster. I know he can’t help it and I feel guilty for anticipating my “escape” but, damnit, there’s only so much to say about phone cases! Or so it would seem, to you and me. “ByeIloveyouhaveagreatday!Goodbye!Go!” Door slam. Sigh. Relief.
My son turns, smiles and waves goodbye to me like a little boy, like every morning. 18 and an Aspy and still such a little boy. I smile and wave back. And my heart is filled.
