Three easy ways to brighten those dark areas under your kitchen cabinets.
—
Have you ever noticed how some kitchen displays look so bright, open, and inviting? There may be a bowl of fruit, a lavish gourmet spread, happy people, but one thing they all have in common is under-cabinet lighting. You may have noticed this in someone’s home as well, and it may have taken you a minute to realize why their kitchen was so bright and cheerful. And then the lights went on! Time to light up your life, start in the kitchen.

Here are three easy ways to add under-cabinet lighting to your kitchen. The best part is you can do it this weekend!
1. LED puck lights – battery operated. These little gems come with hook and loop tape, on-off-dimmer function, and a three-pack is around $30.00.
2. Halogen puck lights – battery operated or direct-wired through a transformer. The cost for the pucks is in the same range as the LED pucks. The direct wire option will vary based on number of pucks and distance between each puck.
3. LED strip lighting – must be direct wired. In my opinion, this is by far the most attractive option of the three. The caveat – like the halogen direct-wire lights you will need to do some basic house wiring. If you know how to wire a single-pole switch you can handle the install. If not, it should be relatively inexpensive to hire a professional to install them.

One of the nifty features of the LED strip lighting – they can be cut to within an inch or so of the space under your cabinets. NO areas on the counter without light. Even if you don’t choose this option, check them out the next time you are in a big box, or lighting store.
