In lieu of Paul Ryan’s commitment to improve life outcomes of inner city men, here are five things he would probably say to them.
—
After almost immediate backlash for his crude, offensive and racist remarks about poor people being born lazy and inner city men not being interested in work, Paul Ryan claims his comments were inarticulate and not directed at any one race. Ryan says he regrets making the comments, although, according to ThinkProgress.com:
Ryan’s office initially sought to substantiate the Congressman’s claims by pointing to research conducted by Harvard’s Robert Putnam, whose research has found that lower-income Americans are more distrustful of others and more disconnected from society’s important institutions than their middle or higher-income counterparts. However, the research doesn’t examine whether poor people are unwilling to work.
Ryan pledges he will continue to focus on reforming the nation’s poverty programs in his next budget, which, one would think, will require him to maybe interact intimately with poor people to really understand the culture. Thinking about Paul Ryan spending quality time with poor people and lazy inner city men, I would have to imagine these would be the top five things he would say during his tenure in the hood.
1. “Run Faster!”
How many cops have to chase you to get you to run at 60 mph?
2. “Frisk Yourself!”
We pay cops to stop you, the least you could do is frisk yourself.
3. “You’re smoking again?”
You know if you just swallowed the weed in one big gulp instead of smoking it throughout the day you could increase productivity.
4. “You’re sleeping again?”
The trip to America was pretty long wouldn’t you say, you should’ve slept on the boat.
5. “Why do you buy $200 sneakers to walk nowhere?”
Jordan had game, you’re being played. Our government will provide a ride to the jail, so no need to get spiffy with the footwear.
