You can’t hold your hand out and simply ask for great things to happen. Take success for yourself no matter what obstacles may appear, and let’s be clear; they will appear.

We all have daydreams. Huge mansions, fast cars, lavish vacations and the best food; you name it and someone’s dreamed it. However, fame and fortune is rarely just given out. In order to get it all, you have to be willing to take a shot, or maybe two, at everything you want to achieve. You know what’s separating you from success in whatever path you choose? It’s not specialty degrees or spotless resume, it’s an unwavering dedication to bettering yourself and your craft at all times. You can’t just roll out of bed and make a million, it takes a whole lot of hard work, but more importantly, a resolute belief in yourself which makes the difference. Some think that opportunities are few and far between when really a strong belief in your ability and the confidence to make the first move is all you need to succeed. It takes a strong will and exceedingly positive outlook to achieve the experience, to forge the connections and to make a difference in your trade. It’s not about blending in and going with the flow, it’s about standing out in a world where everyone may look the same.
It’s easy enough to say you’re committed to what you do, but what does that mean exactly? If it’s your 9 to 5 job and you work hard every day, then yes, technically you’re committed. You have accomplished the bare minimum and advanced yourself only a little. Getting ahead is about showing your commitment and being consistent with it. You can’t show up early one day and expect to get a raise. It takes a consistent effort to exceed expectations and set yourself apart that gets you noticed. Sitting back and letting the good things come to you isn’t going to work. Nobody will know your name unless you tell it to them first, so put your commitment to the test and take advantage of the opportunities at your disposal. Oddly enough, some of the most advantageous unions occurred at the most unlikely of settings so limiting yourself in scope and presence is unwise.

Connecting with the right people, those with the resources and ability to bring you forward (not backwards!), is key in any business sense and it takes a fervent commitment to make that happen. Having a good attitude is an overused, yet at the same time underestimated trait which can make a whole lot of difference when it comes to committing yourself to a cause. When you have the right attitude, you don’t wait to take action or limit yourself in who you can reach. You take every possible measure to ensure that you’re available at every opportunity to take steps forward. Attitude is more than just making yourself available. It’s about giving 110% in everything you do. When you show up late and phone things in, nobody is going to take you seriously. Getting motivated to take the extra steps are what sets a winner apart from everybody else.
A bad attitude is a cancer that poisons ideas and stifles ingenuity. It casts a cloud over confidence and halts progress. When stubborn people have a bad attitude, absolutely nothing will get done. So instead, try at times to focus your energy not on what you do, but how you do it. When you give the effort and go the extra mile in every situation, it’s going to have a positive impact in more ways than one. Help out one person then find out how they can help you. Spend the extra dollar or put in another hour of work on the right things and the benefits will become self-evident. Helping those around you can often be incredibly important in getting your name out there and advancing your agenda so never limit yourself in any capacity. You never know the kinds of doors someone else can open so do everything possible to those options open.
You can’t hold your hand out and simply ask for great things to happen. You need to take success for yourself no matter what obstacles may appear, and let’s be clear; they will appear. Your ability to take a perceived obstacle and turn it into a positive experience is predicated on your ability to stay committed to your craft and keeping a positive attitude no matter what comes your way. The potential of every human being is exactly the same. Those who make it in life are those who harness that potential and turn it into something great. When your attitude is bad or your commitment waivers, it has a lasting impact on all you’re trying to achieve. Bettering yourself starts with believing in yours and what you stand for so when you want to get ahead, just look within yourself and find what you need.
