We’re looking for gay, bi-sexual, and transgender youth to tell their stories; to embrace this month by celebrating their sexual identity and gender identification, sharing how gender diversity is a gift, and reinforcing that sexual orientation and gender identity are inherent.
_______
In June, 1969, police raided Greenwich Village’s Stonewall Inn, one of the few LGBT friendly bars throughout New York. The patrons rioted against the raid and sparked a nation-wide movement to further LGBT rights. In 2000, President Bill Clinton designated June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. This recognition honors the 1969 Stonewall riots, a pivotal historic moment in the Gay Rights movement. June is now celebrated as a month recognizing the impact those in the LGBT community have on the world and is meant as a month of acceptance, welcoming diversity into communities regardless of sexual orientation.
Throughout the month of June, The Good Men Project joins the national celebration of LGBT Pride and LGBT Book month.

In addition, June also marks National LGBT Book Month, celebrating literature by LGBT writers as well as literature in support of the LGBT community.

We’re looking for gay, bi-sexual, and transgender youth (between ages 18-24) to tell their stories; to embrace this month by celebrating their sexual identity and gender identification, sharing how gender diversity is a gift, and reinforcing that sexual orientation and gender identity are inherent.
Also, we invite our readers to share reviews of LGBT-themed books or authors that have helped strengthen their identity, truly speak the LGBT experience, or challenge the public perception of sexual orientation and gender identification.
Finally, The Good Men Project seeks submissions from family members and allies of LGBT youth that want to share stories in support of their LGBT loved ones. Submissions could also share specific books that helped illuminate and communicate the LGBT experience.
Please send your article ideas, rough drafts, or pristinely edited final copies to [email protected]. Include “LGBT Call for Submissions” in the Subject line.

I’m a little outside the youth category 😉 but one of the books I wish I’d had when I started coming out was a volume called “Everything I Have Is Blue.” Representations of gay life are infrequent, and when they appear, they are often focused on affluent urban white males, and there is a strong pressure, both internal and external, to conform, often to the point of being a clone. “Blue” was a refreshing collection of alternate perspectives for young men who might find themselves saying, “I know I’m gay, but I just don’t have any interest in the things… Read more »
