After years of success, David Daneshgar grew more and more uncomfortable with, as he puts it, “taking people’s money.” While working towards his business degree at the University of Chicago, he met his future business partners and identified a common frustration: sending flowers to friends and loved ones is a hit-or-miss game. Upon further investigation, they learned that local florists are often the most affected by the way the industry is set up. The pain point was enough to kickstart a new business idea, and Bloomnation.com was born.
In this interview, David talks about:
• What it was like to transition from poker to flowers
• Why he felt he needed to give back to the community
• How they raised the initial funds to start the company
• How they managed to connect with the local florist community and identify their main frustrations
• What skills from poker he still uses with his business
• What his advice is for social entrepreneurs wanting to make the world a better place
