John Picciuto says you have no one but yourself to blame for where you are, for what you are or aren’t doing. If you want to change your life, do it now. Here’s how.

You know what I’m tired of? I’m tired of worrying about how many likes one of my Instagram posts gets. And I’m tired of wondering how many favorites or retweets some snarky comment I make on Twitter gets. I’m tired of worrying about how many people like when I chance my Facebook picture and I’m tired of caring whether anything I do on social media has an impact on anybody else other than myself. Is it me or does it just seem like people just do shit now for everyone else’s validation? I have to show you the steak I ate Saturday night, or the seats I had at the Yankee game, or the new watch I bought and the list goes on and on and on. Somehow, through all this appreciation seeking I think people start losing sight of what is really important.
You have an incredibly short, finite amount of time on this earth and you can either spend it sitting around waiting for things to come to you or you can go out and make your dreams come true. It sounds cheesy as hell but it’s the truth.

In life it’s super simple, find what you love and chase your passions. Do what you want. Do what makes you happy. You have an incredibly short, finite amount of time on this earth and you can either spend it sitting around waiting for things to come to you or you can go out and make your dreams come true. It sounds cheesy as hell but it’s the truth. Almost a year ago I altered my life drastically, I left the friendly confines of large “corporate America” type business and I followed my passion and my heart. It sounds cliché but the hardest decisions in life almost always pave the way for the greatest dividends and I see that now. I started writing a few years ago because I felt like I had a unique perspective and a unique voice that I wanted to share. It’s easy to say you want to do things; it’s absolutely something else to go and do it.
The simple fact of life is that there are no easy answers ever. It’s easy to become adrift and not take the time to ask yourself questions like, What are your passions? What does make you happy? What do YOU want to be?

I’ve noticed it seems incredibly easy to find yourself drifting in the world. You graduate High School and if you’re lucky enough to enroll in college you take a few years to figure out what you want to major in and hopefully some 4 odd years later you graduate with a piece of paper that says you’ve accomplished something. You’re then left with the greatest open-ended question of your entire life, what now? What’s next? The simple fact of life is that there are no easy answers ever. It’s easy to become adrift and not take the time to ask yourself questions like what are your passions? What does make you happy? What do YOU want to be? It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make goals, and milestones, and dreams you want for yourself as you grow up but without them I think it is really easy to become lost. You can float around from job to job and ultimately always feel the pull for something more. Like something in your life is incomplete and it unfortunately takes you a decade or more to realize that you’ve been lost. That’s a lesson I learned and one I’m hoping to help you avoid.
If you ever feel like mistakes you’ve made in the past continually haunt your present and your future you’re not alone. But now is the time to change that perception. Now is the time to alter the way you look, feel, and act. You have no one to blame in life for where you are, or what you are or aren’t doing but yourself. If you want to travel the world, do it. Make a plan, plot a course, and figure out how to do the things that are important to you. Nobody is going to hand you a road map to happiness, and nobody is going to pave the way to success for you except yourself. It’s time more people start taking their passions and their dreams into account and start planning out their lives. And most importantly, is it’s never too late to realize a dream or chase down a passion for something you love.

Hi John,
This is a great story! Many people are going through reinventions because of corporate downsizings. It is never too late to do what you want. This does not only pertain to the professional side. It is hard to forget about our past mistakes. It is easier to live in the present when we quiet our mind and listen to our spirit. Our spirit is a shared spirit with everyone else and our creator. Listening to the spirit is the best way of seeing what is the best thing for us to do.
