David Bergman conveys the joy of a long-term relationship in this variation on the sonnet form.

Sonnet (Unrhymed)
We open the door of the Greek diner
to head up Lexington, when suddenly
before we even feel it, see the first
snow of the year dotting the headlights
of the oncoming traffic, and we feel
such joy that it has come this night
of all nights while we are strolling back
to our room. It’s too warm to stick and won’t
last long, but to think the sky has in it
such possibilities, that it hasn’t forgotten
these old tricks of beauty and that we
can head homeward side by side in a love
that has lasted more than thirty years,
and all because we live in that sort of poem.
