Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Christian Lyons, and I’m the newly appointed editor for The Good Men Project’s education section. You may have seen some of my writing in other sections as well, and I hope you continue to do so. I’m pleased and proud to be part of such an important social resource in shifting the perceptions of 21st century men.
I am a professional writer of fiction, non-fiction, and other styles. As a member of Colorado Humanities’ Writers in the Schools program, I am privileged to be able to instruct K-16 in creative and essay writing, through which we publish an annual journal of student work. Since 1995, I have provided writing workshops across the western U.S. in creative fiction, poetry, memoir and screenwriting, and am a certified coach in creative matters, working with writers, singers, musicians, comedians, actors and others in growing and exceeding their creative potential.
My Master’s in creative writing was obtained from UCLA, and my Bachelor’s in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Colorado.
I began my career as a marketing specialist, creative director, and small business owner in Boulder, Colorado, and have moved into other creative areas (as mentioned above), though continue to provide marketing and creative management to a number of regional organizations. I’m very active in worldwide humanitarian efforts via Global Refuge International as blog manager and content curator, and recently took the helm as marketing director with Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue. I specialize in culling talent and cultivating/enhancing creativity; bringing people together creatively; administrative organization & reorganization; historical documents; information research and interviews. I’m also a former radio DJ, podcast producer, and events coordinator.
My screenplays have been considered by some of the thoroughbreds in the industry (James Cameron, Barry Sonnenfeld, Jim Carrey, and Ryan Reynolds), and my writing has appeared in The Bark magazine, New York Magazine, Over the Edge, Babel, and in the fiction anthologies Pull the Trigger and Darker Times, Volume 7. I’m the former editor of Freelance Writers Organization International, and hope to start my own non-profit urban writing center here in Denver, where I currently reside with my three dogs: a Great Dane, a boxer/Dalmation mix, and a black Lab/Rottweiler mix.
