These dads responded to a hateful comment with a reminder that it’s okay to be different.

Liam is a 9-year-old boy, a dancer who loves the theater, and he just happens to have two dads. Each Halloween, Liam goes all out on his costume with the help from his fathers. He takes months planning the very realistic fun, in-depth costumes, and makeup designs to get his costume just right. After being Medusa and Cleopatra, Liam decided to be Cruella de Vil this year, and his costume would have many adults jealous because it’s so amazing.
His father, Will Hutt, told the Gaily Grind, “We encourage him to do what he wants. He’s a kid and Halloween is a great creative outlet.”
What a dad, right? Proud of his son, Hutt posted Liam’s costume on Facebook and received a very ugly note from one person.

A 9-year-old isn’t an infant—they have opinions and likes and dislikes, and surprise, they dress themselves.

“Rebecca” wrote: I must say completely inappropriate, and I can’t believe a parent would ever do that to their child! Sorry if I offend you or your friends but I think it’s wrong.
Your “apology” sounds more like, “Sorry, not sorry,” Rebecca.
Liam’s father, Hutt, told Huffington Post: “My initial reaction was anger and led me to start writing something that probably couldn’t be repeated. Half way through I deleted what I wrote and decided to take the high road.”
This is what Hutt wrote instead:
We deal with this type of small-minded person on a daily basis. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I will always support and encourage my kids creativity happily and without apology.
You go, Dad!

See the problem with “Rebecca’s” statement is that a boy dressing up as a woman or a female character isn’t “inappropriate.” Must I remind her that thousands of men and boys dress up as women or girls for Halloween every year?
Secondly, Hutt didn’t do anything to his child. His son wanted to be Cruella de Vil just like he wanted to be Medusa and Cleopatra in years past. Has Rebecca ever been around kids? A 9-year-old isn’t an infant—they have opinions and likes and dislikes, and surprise, they dress themselves. I would love to see any parent or adult try to make a 9-year-old wear something they didn’t want to wear. That child wouldn’t definitely not be as happy as Liam obviously is in these photographs.
Hutt said, “My son has planned to be Cruella for months and I was not going to let someone steal his shine.”
Lol. We just don’t see a picture of this boy. I am sure that would stir up more opinions than this writer would like. #Haha
