I have to say the highlight of the #BRAvsCOL match was this. https://t.co/1qGeNmDSWN

Good sportsmanship is one thing – shaking hands after a game, maybe a friendly shoulder-hug.
But after Colombia’s loss to Brazil on Friday, one member of the winning team took sportsmanship to a new level.
The vine above, tweeted by Anup Kaphle, shows Brazil’s David Luiz hugging Colombia’s emotional superstar, James Rodriguez, and encouraging the crowd to give Rodriguez the praise and love he deserved after playing incredibly well during this World Cup.
This is what being an athlete should look like. What a great example to our kids.

It’s a fine gesture, yes.
Although I do find it a bit hypocritical after they’ve been trying to literally kick him out of the game for 90 minutes.
And yes, I know that the Colombians “succeded” in doing so with Neymar towards the end of the game. But had the referee done what he is supposed to do to suppress these tendencies, that run-in would probably not had happened.
The fact that this is even an issue is troubling and frankly silly. Hugs are a natural and great was for people to show their support, appreciation, affection and humanity for each other regardless of gender. All over the wold men hung an kiss on the check when they meet and part and it has nothing to do with orientation and everything to do with being human.
When I checked this out on GMP face book, several women made the comments that it was “hot.” Imagine what women would say if men said the same about two women …. heck, you don’t have to imagine, you know what they would say … guys are creeps.
Men say that all the time. All the fricking time, and right in women’s faces. What creeps people out is how much many, many men will sexualize everything, everyone, with no good sense or shame. As if women existed to their pleasure and that is all. The WAY they say is also many times crude or even offensive, overly vulgar, demeaning. Of course some rare women do that as well. Now if people feel offended with something, man or woman, they should voice it. We have to talk. Women and men are not sexualized the same way, their sexuality is… Read more »

Good on you, Dani Alves and David Luiz. You see this a lot in soccer, probably a lot more than people would suspect. Vincent Kompany of Belgium, rather than reiterating how great his team played, he honored Tim Howard for his otherworldly performance. Cristiano Ronaldo hugging Tim Howard in the USA vs. Portugal game, former teammates and roommates at Manchester United. There is so much love and respect between the players for one another. Even Chiellini who the whole world witnessed being bit by Luis Suarez has come out in support of him saying the resulting punishment is too long,… Read more »
Soccer; the sport of huggers and injury fakers.
They are Brazilian after all. Some of the most amazing and emotionally open men out there. 🙂
